Joy Fleming was a talented singer and songwriter. She sang in different styles. These included Schlager music and soul music. Schlager is a popular type of German pop music. Soul music comes from African-American gospel and rhythm and blues.

In 1978, Joy had a popular disco song. It was called "The Final Thing." This song was released in the United States. It was on the Atlantic Records label. The song was originally sung by Steve Bender. He was a member of the German disco group Dschinghis Khan.
