Joyce Evans began her career in journalism as a morning news anchor at WSET in Lynchburg, Virginia. Later, she moved to Miami, Florida. There, she was a weekend anchor and hosted a show about important community topics at WCIX (which is now called WFOR).

Working in Philadelphia

After her time in Miami, Joyce moved to Philadelphia. She worked at KYW-TV for ten years. During this time, she was a reporter, sometimes filled in for the main news anchor, and hosted a show called The Saturday Tribune.

A Comment and Apology

In 2013, Joyce made a comment on social media that some people found upsetting. She quickly explained that she did not mean to make light of a serious topic. She apologized for the misunderstanding. She has not talked about the comment since then.

Joyce Evans was born on June 14, 1956, in Washington, D.C. She was the fifth of eight children born to William A. and Margaret Evans. She went to several schools in Washington, D.C., including Kenilworth Elementary, Grimke Elementary, and Shaw Jr. High. She graduated from McKinley High School.

Joyce also attended the Howard University Upward Bound program. She then went on to study at Florida A&M University. She graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. She is considered a distinguished alumna, which means she is a very successful former student.

Organizations and Achievements

Joyce Evans is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. This is a group for college women who focus on public service. She is also part of the National Association of Black Journalists. This organization supports Black journalists and helps them in their careers. In 2018, she was honored by the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. She was inducted into their hall of fame, which is a special recognition for people who have made a big impact in broadcasting. Joyce is from Washington, D.C., but she now lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
