Juan Lombía (born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1806 – died in Madrid, Spain, in 1851) was a talented Spanish actor, writer, and theatre manager. He was very important in the theatre world during his time.

Who Was Juan Lombía?

Juan Lombía was a person who did many things in the theatre. He performed on stage as an actor, wrote plays, and also managed theatres. A theatre manager, also called an impresario, is someone who organizes and puts on plays and shows. They decide which plays to perform and make sure everything runs smoothly.

His Work as a Writer

As a writer, Juan Lombía is mostly remembered for one special play. It was called El sitio de Zaragoza (which means The Siege of Zaragoza). He wrote this short play in 1808. It was a special introduction, or "prologue," to other plays. This prologue was written to honor the Dos de Mayo Uprising. The Dos de Mayo Uprising was a very important event in Spanish history when people in Madrid rose up against French rule.

His Role as a Theatre Manager

Juan Lombía was also a very important theatre manager at a famous place called the Teatro de la Cruz in Madrid. In this role, he was in charge of putting on many plays by another famous Spanish writer named José Zorrilla. One of the most well-known plays he helped stage was Don Juan Tenorio. This play is still very popular in Spain today, especially around All Saints' Day.

Juan Lombía's work as an actor, writer, and manager helped shape Spanish theatre in the 1800s.
