About Juan Luis Panero
Juan Luis Panero came from a well-known family of writers. His father was Leopoldo Panero, and his uncle was Juan Panero. His brother, Leopoldo María Panero, was also a poet. Juan Luis grew up in a comfortable home. He studied in El Escorial, Spain, and later in London, England.
He loved to travel and explore new places. This led him to visit many countries in America. During his travels, he met famous writers. Some of these included Octavio Paz, Jorge Luis Borges, and Juan Rulfo. He also helped put together collections of poems by other writers. These collections are called anthologies. He created anthologies for his father, Leopoldo Panero, Pablo Neruda, and Octavio Paz. He also made special selections of poetry from Colombia and Mexico.

The Panero Family in Film
In 1974, a filmmaker named Jaime Chávarri started a project. It was meant to be a report about Juan Luis's father, Leopoldo Panero. But the project turned into a famous film called El desencanto (The Disenchantment).
"El desencanto" Film
This film became very important for understanding the Panero family. It also showed a lot about the time period it was made in. In the first part of the film, Juan Luis's mother, Felicidad, and two of her sons talk. They share their memories of the poet, Leopoldo Panero. He doesn't appear in the film himself. There are no photos or videos of him. He is like a memory that is still present for the family.
The second part of the film focuses on Juan Luis's brother, Leopoldo María Panero. The movie gives a unique look at this special family. It also shows a time in Spain that was coming to an end. The film hints at the final years of Spain's time under Franco. This was a period when General Franco ruled Spain. Leopoldo Panero, the father, was one of the official writers during that time.
Later Film
Many years later, in 1994, another film about the family was released. It was called Después de tantos años (After So Many Years). This movie continued the story that Jaime Chávarri had started two decades before.
