Juan was born in a town called Salas in Asturias, Spain, on June 26, 1927. He was a very good student. He went to the University of Madrid and earned a special award for his studies in economics in 1956. He was part of the first group of students to get a degree in economics in Spain.
Juan worked for the government, helping to check on labor conditions until 1982. He also wrote a lot about economic topics for different newspapers and magazines. He shared his ideas in publications like Revista de Economía Política, La Hora, Alférez, and Alcalá.
From 1952 to 1979, he was in charge of the economics section for the newspaper Arriba. Later, he wrote columns for Ya from 1979 to 1986. After that, he regularly wrote for the newspaper ABC. He also contributed to the magazine Época and wrote articles for Expansión. For many years, he had a weekly column in El Economista.
