Early Life and Education
Judy Klemesrud was born in Thompson, Iowa. Her parents were Glee and Theo S. Klemesrud. She had a brother, Tom Theo Klemesrud, and a sister, Candace. Judy's father owned two local newspapers in Iowa: the Thompson Courier and the Rake Register. This might have sparked her interest in writing!
Judy went to the University of Iowa from 1958 to 1961. While she was there, she worked as an editor for the student newspaper, The Daily Iowan. After graduating, she continued her studies at Columbia University's School of Journalism.
A Career in Journalism
After college, Judy Klemesrud started her career as a reporter. She worked for the Chicago Daily News for four years. This experience helped her become a skilled journalist.
In 1966, Judy joined The New York Times, a very famous newspaper. She wrote for them for many years, until her death in 1985.
