Jules Joseph Lefebvre (born March 14, 1836 – died February 24, 1911) was a famous French painter. He was also a very important teacher who taught many students. He is best known for his paintings of people, especially beautiful women.

Early Life
Jules Lefebvre was born in Tournan-en-Brie, France, on March 14, 1836. When he was 16, in 1852, he started studying art. He went to a famous art school called the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. There, he was a student of a well-known artist named Léon Cogniet.
Painting Career
In 1861, Jules Lefebvre won a very important art prize. It was called the Prix de Rome. He won it with his painting called The Death of Priam. This prize allowed him to study art in Rome, Italy.
Between 1855 and 1898, he showed 72 of his paintings in the Paris Salon. This was a very important art show in Paris. Many of his paintings showed single figures of beautiful women. He also painted many portraits. Some of his best portraits were of M. L. Reynaud and the Prince Imperial. In 1891, he became a member of the French Académie des Beaux-Arts. This is a very respected group of artists.
A Great Teacher
Jules Lefebvre was also a professor at the Académie Julian in Paris. He was known as an excellent and kind teacher. He taught more than 1500 students during his career. Many of his students came from America.

- Kenyon Cox
- Félix Vallotton
- Edmund C. Tarbell, who became an American Impressionist painter.
- Alice Beckington, who was a miniaturist (a painter of very small portraits).
Jules Lefebvre died in Paris on February 24, 1911. He was buried in the Montmartre Cemetery. His grave has a special carving that looks like his painting La Vérité.
