Kakish Ryskulova (born October 15, 1918 – died August 26, 2018) was an amazing doctor and important political figure from Kyrgyzstan. She was a top scientist at the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences. What makes her truly special is that she was the first woman from Central Asia and the first Kyrgyz woman to become a surgeon!

Early Life and Medical Training
Kakish Ryskulova was born on October 15, 1918. Her village was called Chetindi, located in the Ysyk-Ata district of the Chuy region. Sadly, she became an orphan when she was only ten years old.
Her uncle, Ishenali Arabaev, was a big support. He encouraged her to go to boarding school. Later, he also inspired her to study medicine.
In 1936, she began her medical journey. She started by studying nursing at the Frunze Medical School. After finishing nursing school, she worked as a paramedic in Batken. She also worked as a nurse in Naryn.
Becoming a Surgeon
In 1940, Kakish Ryskulova started studying at the medical faculty of the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy. She worked very hard and graduated in 1944. Her studies helped her move on to advanced medical training. This is where she made history. She became the first woman from Central Asia to become a surgeon. Two other Kyrgyz people, I.K. Akhunbaev and Zyfar Egemberdieva, also became surgeons around the same time.
In 1951, she earned a special high-level medical degree. Her advanced research focused on vascular surgery. This type of surgery deals with fixing blood vessels. She started this research after graduating, when she treated soldiers wounded in the Second World War.
Her research helped her create a new way to fix veins and arteries. She became an expert in vascular medicine. She also worked in many other areas of medicine. In 1968, she was given the important title of Professor of Medicine.
Important Roles and Legacy
In 1969, Kakish Ryskulova was appointed as a top scientist. She became an academician of the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences. Before she retired, she led the Faculty of Medicine for 35 years. This shows how dedicated and skilled she was.
Ryskulova also played a role in politics. She was elected as a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic. This was a very important government position. She was also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kirghizia.
Kakish Ryskulova passed away on August 26, 2018. Her funeral was held a few days later at the Kyrgyz Drama Theatre. The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, signed her official obituary.
To honor her amazing achievements, the Department of Surgery at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is named after her.

Personal Life
Kakish Ryskulova was married to Omorkul Suleymanov. They had two daughters together. They also adopted two of her nephews, making their family even bigger. All of their children became doctors, except for one daughter, Anara Suleymanova. Anara chose a different path and became a professional ballerina!
