Carlisle: A Historic Spot
- Carlisle is a historic place in the township. You can find it where Carlisle Highway and Lacey Lake Road meet. Back in 1837, a man named Charles T. Moffat built a large saw-mill here. Later, Oliver A. Hyde owned the mill, and the area became known as "Hyde's Mills." A post office, which is where mail is handled, opened in Carlisle in 1843 and stayed open until 1903.
Elmira: Another Old Location
- Elmira is another historic spot in the township. It's located along Ionia Road, about three miles south of M-79. This community also had its own post office, which operated from 1855 to 1871.
