How the Kansai Ki-in Started
During World War II, it was very hard for people to travel. Players from the Osaka area found it difficult to go to Tokyo for Go events organized by the Nihon Ki-in. Because of this, the Nihon Ki-in created a special branch in western Japan.
In 1950, a disagreement happened over an important Go title called the Honinbo. This western branch decided to become independent. That's how the Kansai Ki-in was formed, creating its own path for Go players in the Kansai region.
