Team History
The Koyotes started playing in 2003. Before joining the CPIFL, they were a founding member of the American Professional Football League (APFL). They won the first six championships in that league!
Early Success
In their first few years, the Koyotes were very strong in the APFL. They didn't lose a single game in 2003 and 2004. They won the APFL Bowl against the Missouri Minutemen both times. In 2005, they had another perfect season. They won their third APFL Bowl against the Iowa Blackhawks with a field goal right at the end of the game. Their amazing winning streak lasted for 31 games. This included exhibition games and playoff games.
A running back coach named Brian Hebert helped the team a lot. He had five great running backs, including Donnell Smith. This helped the team win its first championship in 2003. Even Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl champion Clayton Holmes played for the Koyotes in 2003.
First Losses and New Records
In 2006, the Koyotes finally lost their first game. It was against the Wichita Aviators. They lost to the Aviators again later that season. The Koyotes finished second in the league standings that year.
In 2007, the Koyotes kept winning all their home games. They only lost two games on the road. They went on to win APFL Bowl V against the Iowa Blackhawks. During this season, something special happened. The Koyotes signed Abby Vestal as their kicker. On April 23, she kicked three extra points. This made her the first woman to score points in a professional men's football game!
Joining a New League
In 2013, the Koyotes joined the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL). This league had stronger teams. The Koyotes found it much harder to win games. They finished with only two wins and 22 losses over their last two seasons.
After the 2014 season, the Koyotes announced they would leave the CPIFL. They planned to play independently in 2015. However, none of those games were played. It seems the team stopped playing after that.
