Kareli (pronounced Kah-REL-ee, in Georgian: ქარელი) is a town in the Shida Kartli region of Georgia. It is located on the right bank of the Mtkvari River. Kareli is about 94 kilometers (58 miles) west of Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia.
Kareli has grown a lot over the years. It became a special district center in 1939. Later, in 1962, it was called a township. Finally, in 1981, Kareli was officially declared a city. Today, Kareli has a railway station, different businesses, healthcare facilities, schools, and cultural places for its residents.
