Her Artistic Family
Kari Buen comes from a very artistic family called the Buen family, from a place called Jondalen. Her father, Anders A. Buen, was a skilled fiddler. Her mother, Margit Buen, was also a traditional musician.
Kari has several siblings who are also well-known musicians. Her brothers are Hauk Buen and Knut Buen, and her sister is Agnes Buen Garnås. It seems creativity runs in their family!
How Kari Became an Artist
Kari Buen spent many years studying art to become the sculptor she is today. She went to several different art schools.
- From 1958 to 1960, she studied at the Art School in Trondheim. There, she learned from a teacher named Karl Johan Flåthen.
- Later, from 1963 to 1966, and again from 1973 to 1974, she attended the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. Her teachers there were Per Palle Storm and Roar Wold.
- Finally, from 1978 to 1979, she studied at Rauland Academy with Knut Skinnarland.
Kari Buen showed her art to the public for the first time in 1960. This was at a big art show in Oslo called the Autumn Exhibition.
