Karolcia is a popular children's book written by Maria Krüger in 1959. It's a magical story from Poland that many young readers enjoy. In Poland, it's even a book that younger students (around 7-9 years old) read in school.
Story of Karolcia
The main character in the book is Karolcia, an eight-year-old girl. One day, she finds a special blue bead. This isn't just any bead; it's magical! It can make any wish come true.
Karolcia and her friend Peter decide to use the bead for good. They want to make other people happy. Their adventures are exciting and full of magic. For example, they help the President get away from a mean witch named Filomena. Filomena also tries to steal the magical bead, but she doesn't succeed.
As the story goes on, the blue bead starts to lose its color. It tells Karolcia that it will soon disappear forever. Karolcia feels sad about this. But she and Peter make a brave choice. They decide not to use their last wish for themselves. Instead, they wish for other people's dreams to come true. This wish helps many people. Children get new toys, and sick people in the hospital start to feel better.
The book ends with Karolcia feeling happy that she helped others. But she is also a little sad because her magical bead is now gone.
More Adventures: Sequels
Because "Karolcia" was so popular, the author wrote another book. In 1970, Maria Krüger wrote Witaj, Karolciu (which means "Hello, Karolcia"). This book continues the adventures of Karolcia and her friends.
Later, in 2009, another writer named Krzysztof Zięcik wrote a third book. It's called Karolcia na wakacjach (meaning "Karolcia on Vacation").
You can also listen to the first two books as audiobooks. The actress Maria Seweryn reads them.
Karolcia on Screen: Adaptations
The book "Karolcia" has also been made into a TV movie. This movie came out in 1995.
There was also a plan to make another movie in 2001. A director named Jowita Gondek started working on it. By 2008, about 80% of the movie was filmed. However, it was never fully finished.
