The Kartu languages are a group of Indigenous Australian languages. People speak them in the Murchison and Gascoyne areas of Western Australia. Experts believe these languages are closely related. They form a small family of languages.

What Are Kartu Languages?

The name Kartu comes from a word meaning 'man' in one of these languages. Sometimes, people spelled it 'Kardu' in older writings. These languages are part of a much larger group called the Pama–Nyungan family. This family includes many Indigenous Australian languages.

Are All These Languages Kartu?

The language Nhanda might or might not be a Kartu language. Some researchers have included it, while others have not. Another language, Thaagurda, also seems to have been a Kartu language.
