Kate Vanderpoel facts for kids

Cornelia Townsend (born 11 August 1851) was an American composer who published most of her music under the name Kate Vanderpoel. She wrote songs, an opera, and music for piano rolls.

Townsend was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Horace Gilbert and Eliza Ann Thornton Townsend. She had a twin brother named George, as well as six other brothers and one sister. Little is known about her education or her date of death. At some point she moved to Chicago, Illinois. The last census in which she was documented was the 1910 census. Her Book of Songs was copyrighted in 1911 and published in 1912.

In 1896, the Republican National Committee sponsored the publication of Townsend's "Flag Song," with words by John Swinton. She wrote another song, "The Man from Ohio," about President William McKinley.

Townsend composed music for the player piano rolls and player organs produced by the Aeolian Company, Melvin Clark Piano Company, and Wilcox & White Company. Her music was published by S. Brainard Sons and Orpheus Publishing Company. Her compositions include:
