Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Katoufs is the name of a special children's book and art collection. The word "Katoufs" comes from an old Greek expression that means "making a face"—like when you make a silly or surprised face! This collection was created by Princess Marie of Greece (1876–1940). The first Katoufs book was published in London in 1925.

What is Katoufs?

Katoufs is an illustrated children's book. It is also a collection of art that looks like drawings from a notebook. Princess Marie of Greece created all the artwork. She was born in 1876 and passed away in 1940.

Katoufs Art and Products

The unique Katoufs art collection became very popular. It was licensed to different companies. This meant the companies could use the art on their products.

One of the first companies to use the art was Spiegel Catalog, Inc. They used the Katoufs designs for items like bedding, bath towels, and decorations for baby rooms.

Later, in 2001, another company called Andrews McMeel Publishing licensed the art. They used the Katoufs designs on many different items. These included small gift books, stationery, greeting cards, and note cards.
