Katsumi Yusa (遊佐 克美, Yusa Katsumi, born August 2, 1989) is a Japanese professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder for Primeiro Fukushima. A midfielder is a player who helps both attack and defend for their team.
Katsumi Yusa's Football Journey
Katsumi Yusa has played for many different football clubs throughout his career. He started in Japan and later moved to play in India and Paraguay.
Early Career in Japan
Katsumi Yusa began his professional journey with Sanfrecce Hiroshima. He played his first game in Japan's top league, the J1 League, in 2007. His team, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, was later moved down to a lower league, the J2 League. However, they quickly won the J2 League in 2008 and moved back up. During this time, Yusa was loaned to Zweigen Kanazawa to gain more playing experience.
Playing in India and Paraguay
After his time in Japan, Yusa moved to South America. In 2010, he joined Club Sportivo San Lorenzo in Paraguay.
ONGC Football Club
In 2011, Katsumi Yusa moved to India. He joined an Indian football team called ONGC. He scored his first goal for ONGC in April 2011. His team was moved down to a lower league, but Yusa stayed with them. He helped ONGC win promotion back to the top league by scoring 6 goals.
Success with Mohun Bagan
On May 1, 2013, Yusa joined Mohun Bagan, a very famous team in India. He played for them for four seasons. During his time there, he became the team captain. He led Mohun Bagan to win the I-League title in the 2014-15 season. He also helped them win the Federation Cup, another important tournament, in 2016.
Loan to NorthEast United
While still with Mohun Bagan, Yusa also played for NorthEast United. This was a loan move to play in the Indian Super League, another big football league in India. He made his debut for NorthEast United in October 2016. In that game, he scored the winning goal against Kerala Blasters.
Moving to East Bengal
After four successful seasons with Mohun Bagan, Yusa made a big move. He joined their main rivals, East Bengal, for the 2017-18 season.
Playing for NEROCA and Chennai City
Later, Yusa joined NEROCA for the 2018-19 season. He scored several goals for them. In 2019, he moved to Chennai City, which was the champion team of the 2018-19 I-League season.
Return to Japan and Kolkata
After playing in India for many years, Yusa returned to Japan. He played for Fukushima United from 2021 to 2023. In 2023, he joined Primeiro Fukushima.
Playing for Presidency University
In 2023, Katsumi Yusa also played a special match for Presidency University in Kolkata, India. This was a celebratory game organized by a fan club. He played for the Presidency team against a team called Bengal All Stars. Fans cheered loudly during the match.
