Playing Football: Katsuya Ishihara's Career

Katsuya Ishihara was born in Nirasaki, Japan, on October 2, 1978. After finishing university, he joined his hometown football club, Ventforet Kofu, in 2001. This team played in the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest professional football division.

Becoming a Key Player

From his very first season, Ishihara quickly became an important midfielder for Ventforet Kofu. He played in many matches for the team over a long period. In 2001, Ventforet Kofu was at the bottom of the J2 League. However, the team's performance started to improve from 2002 onwards.

Reaching the Top League

A big moment came in 2005. Katsuya Ishihara played in all 44 matches that season. Ventforet Kofu finished in third place, which meant they were promoted to the J1 League. This was the first time in the club's history that they reached Japan's top football division.

Life in the J1 League

In the J1 League, from the 2006 season, Ishihara continued to be a key player. He played in almost every match for two seasons. However, the team struggled in the J1 League. At the end of the 2007 season, Ventforet Kofu was relegated back to the J2 League.

Later Career and Retirement

After being relegated, Ventforet Kofu moved between the J2 and J1 leagues several times. Katsuya Ishihara remained a regular player until 2009. After that, his chances to play in matches became less frequent, especially from 2010.

Even though Ventforet Kofu stayed in the J1 League from 2013, Ishihara did not play as much, except for the 2014 season. The team was relegated to the J2 League again at the end of the 2017 season. Katsuya Ishihara played very few matches in 2017. He decided to retire from professional football at the end of that season.
