Katsuya Ishihara (born October 2, 1978) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented midfielder who spent his entire professional career playing for the club Ventforet Kofu in Japan.

Katsuya Ishihara's Football Journey

Ishihara was born in Nirasaki, Yamanashi on October 2, 1978. After finishing his studies at Juntendo University, he joined his local football team, Ventforet Kofu, in 2001. At that time, Ventforet Kofu was playing in the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest football division.

Becoming a Key Player

From his very first season, Ishihara became a regular player for Ventforet Kofu. He played in many matches as a midfielder for a long time. In 2001, his team was at the bottom of the J2 League. However, their results started to get much better from 2002 onwards.

Reaching the Top League

A big moment came in 2005. Ishihara played in all 44 matches that season. Ventforet Kofu finished in 3rd place, which meant they were promoted to the J1 League for the first time ever! The J1 League is Japan's top football division.

Playing in the J1 League

In the J1 League, from 2006, Ishihara continued to be a key player. He played in almost every match for two seasons. However, the team struggled in the J1 League and was relegated back to the J2 League at the end of the 2007 season.

Later Career and Retirement

After being relegated, Ventforet Kofu moved between the J1 and J2 Leagues several times. Ishihara remained a regular player until 2009. After that, he played less often. Even though Ventforet Kofu stayed in the J1 League from 2013, Ishihara didn't get to play as much, except for the 2014 season.

Ventforet Kofu was relegated to the J2 League again at the end of the 2017 season. Ishihara played very few matches in 2017. He decided to retire from professional football at the end of that season, after a long and dedicated career with his hometown club.
