Kaua is a small town in the state of Yucatán, Mexico. It is the main town, or "municipal seat," for the Kaua Municipality. This means it's where the local government for the surrounding area is located. Kaua is found in southeastern Mexico, about 16 kilometers (or 10 miles) southwest of the city of Valladolid. In 2020, about 2,879 people lived in Kaua.
What Does the Name Kaua Mean?
The name Kaua comes from the Yucatec Maya language. This is a language spoken by the Maya people in the Yucatán Peninsula. In Maya, "Kaua" means "the place that is bitter."
