Host Royal Society

The Kavli Medal is the name for two special medals given out every two years by the Royal Society. The Royal Society is a famous group of scientists in the UK.

The Royal Society Kavli Medal for Science

The Royal Society Kavli Medal is given out every two years, in odd-numbered years. It celebrates amazing work in science and engineering, especially in areas like the environment or energy.

This award is for scientists who are still quite early in their careers. They should have been doing research for no more than 15 years since they got their PhD degree. To be considered, the scientist must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country or Ireland. They can also be nominated if they have lived and worked there for at least three years.

The person who wins gets a special bronze medal with a gold finish. They also receive £500 as a personal gift. The winner is also invited to give a public talk about their research at the Royal Society.

A special committee helps the Council of the Royal Society choose the winner. Once someone is nominated, their nomination stays valid for five years.
