Kazuo Echigo (born December 28, 1965) is a famous former Japanese football player. He was a midfielder, which means he played in the middle of the field. Echigo also played for the Japanese National Team. After he stopped playing, he became a football manager.

Playing for Clubs
Kazuo Echigo was born in Mie District, Mie, Japan. He started his professional football career in 1984. He joined a team called Furukawa Electric. This team later changed its name to JEF United Ichihara.
Winning Championships
With Furukawa Electric, Echigo had great success. The team won the 1985–86 Japan Soccer League in the 1985-1986 season. They also won the 1986 JSL Cup in 1986. A very special achievement was winning the 1986 Asian Club Championship. This made them the first Japanese club to win a major Asian football championship.
Later Club Years
Echigo played for JEF United Ichihara until 1995. Then, he moved to another team called Brummell Sendai. This team later became known as Vegalta Sendai. He played for Vegalta Sendai until 1999. After the 1999 season, Kazuo Echigo decided to retire from playing professional football.
Playing for Japan's National Team
Kazuo Echigo also represented his country. He played for the Japanese National Team. His first game for Japan was on July 25, 1986. They played against the team from Syria.

Becoming a Coach and Manager
After ending his playing career, Echigo started coaching. He began coaching at Vegalta Sendai in 2000. He worked there as a coach until 2004.
Coaching Different Teams
In 2007, he joined JEF United Chiba again. This time, he became the manager for their reserve team. A reserve team is like a backup team for the main players. In 2011, he went back to Vegalta Sendai. He became the manager for their youth team, helping young players develop their skills.
Managing Women's Teams
Kazuo Echigo also managed women's football teams. In 2017, he became the manager for the Mynavi Vegalta Sendai Ladies team. In his first season, the team finished in 4th place. However, in 2018, the team struggled. He resigned in June of that year.
On January 19, 2019, Echigo became the manager of the Chinese Taipei women's national football team. He helped the team play very well in the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup. They almost qualified for the World Cup, which would have been their first time since 1991.
