Keita Sugimoto (杉本 恵太, Sugimoto Keita, born June 13, 1982) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward, which means he was usually trying to score goals for his team.
Keita Sugimoto was born on June 13, 1982, in Itako, Ibaraki, Japan. He started his football journey playing for Ryutsu Keizai University from 2001 to 2004.
Playing for Nagoya Grampus
Keita Sugimoto became well-known during his time with Nagoya Grampus Eight (later known as Nagoya Grampus). He played for them from 2005 to 2010. During these years, he played in 173 games and scored 27 goals.
One of his most famous moments was scoring an amazing overhead kick goal. This happened during a game against Al-Ittihad in the AFC Champions League semi-final. It was a very difficult shot, but he made it look easy!
In 2010, Keita Sugimoto and his team, Nagoya Grampus, won the J1 League title. This is a big achievement in Japanese football. They also reached the final of the Emperor's Cup in 2009.
Later Career and Retirement
After leaving Nagoya Grampus, Keita Sugimoto played for other clubs. He joined Tokushima Vortis from 2011 to 2012. Then, in 2013, he played for Hoyo Oita.
He also had a time playing internationally for Chiangrai United from 2014 to 2015. He returned to Verspah Oita in 2016 and played there until 2019, when he retired from professional football.
Family Life
Keita Sugimoto has a daughter named Riina Sugimoto. She followed a different path and joined the idol group SKE48. She became part of their 11th Generation of performers.
