Kemp, Ohio facts for kids
Kemp is a small place in Allen County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it is a group of homes and businesses that does not have its own local government, like a city or a village would. Instead, the area is managed by the larger county government.
The Story of Kemp
Kemp has an interesting past. For a while, it was also known by a slightly different name: Kempton.
This community first got its name because of a railroad station. The station was simply called Kemp. Imagine trains stopping there long ago!
Later, in 1882, a post office opened in the area. It was named Kempton, matching the other name for the community. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages for many years. It stayed open until 1931.
