Kenchō facts for kids
The Kenchō (error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)) was a special time period in Japanese history. It was an era name (called nengō in Japanese). The Kenchō era came after the Hōji era and before the Kōgen era. This period lasted from March 1249 to October 1256. During this time, the emperor of Japan was Emperor Go-Fukakusa (error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)).
What Happened During the Kenchō Era?
- 1252 (Kenchō 2): A very famous statue, the Great Buddha of Kamakura, was put in place. You can still see it today at a temple called Kōtoku-in.
- 1253 (Kenchō 5): A big temple named Kenchō-ji was started.
