Kennekuk, Kansas facts for kids
Kennekuk is a small, undeveloped place in Atchison County, Kansas, in the United States. It's not a city or town with its own government, but rather a community that doesn't have official boundaries.
History of Kennekuk
The community of Kennekuk was officially planned out, or platted, in 1858. This means its streets and lots were drawn on a map. The area was named after a very important person: Kennekuk, who was a medicine man for the Kickapoo Native American tribe.
A post office was opened in Kennekuk in 1857, which was a year before the community was officially planned. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it closed down in 1900.
