The Kent Police Museum is a special place where you can learn all about the history of policing in Kent, England. It's located at the Faversham Police Station. The museum helps us understand how police work has changed over many years.

The museum used to be in a different place, at the Chatham Dockyard. In September 2015, it moved to a temporary spot in Maidstone. Then, on December 8, 2016, it found its new home in Faversham.

What You Can See at the Museum

The Kent Police Museum has many interesting things to explore. It shows how the Kent County Constabulary started in 1857. This was the main police force for Kent. Before that, there were fourteen smaller police forces in different towns and cities. Over time, all these smaller forces joined up with the Kent County Constabulary. By 1943, they were all one big police force.

A Look at Police History

Inside the museum, you can see lots of cool items from the past. There are old police uniforms and different kinds of equipment that officers used. You can also see medals that police officers earned. The museum has many old photographs that show what policing looked like long ago.

There are also special books called "occurrence and charge books." These books recorded important events and details about cases. The museum even has some evidence from old crime scenes, which helps tell the stories of how police solved mysteries in the past.

The idea for collecting these items started in the 1960s. The museum first opened its doors in 1973, so people could come and learn about police history.
