Becoming Queen of Armenia
Around 1262, Keran married Prince Leo of Armenia. He was the oldest son of King Hethum I. Prince Leo became King in 1270 after his father stepped down from the throne. This is called abdication.
Keran's birth name was Anna. After her husband became king, people started calling her Kir-Anna. This means "Lady Anna." Later, her name was shortened to Keran or Guerane.
What People Said About Queen Keran
Many people who lived at the same time as Queen Keran spoke highly of her. Her son, Hethum, said she had "a wonderful soul and a beautiful body."
A writer named Avetis described her as "a good friend to her husband in trouble and joy." This shows she was a supportive partner to King Leo.
Life as a Nun
After her last son was born, Queen Keran decided to become a nun. She joined the Monastery of Trazarg and took the name Theophania. Her sister Marianne might have joined her there.
