King Dao of Chu (who died in 381 BC) was an important ruler in ancient China. He was the king of a powerful area called the state of Chu. He ruled for 21 years, from 401 BC to 381 BC. This was during a time known as the early Warring States period.
Who Was King Dao?
King Dao's birth name was Xiong Yi. In ancient China, kings often received a special name after they died. This was called a posthumous title. So, "King Dao" was the name he was known by after his death.
Ruling the State of Chu
King Dao became king after his father, King Sheng of Chu, passed away in 402 BC. King Dao ruled for a total of 21 years. After his reign, his son, King Su of Chu, took over as the next ruler of Chu.
The Warring States Period
King Dao lived during the early part of the Warring States period. This was a time in ancient China (from about 475 BC to 221 BC) when different states were constantly fighting each other. Each state wanted to become the most powerful. The state of Chu was one of the largest and strongest states during this period. Kings like King Dao had to be very smart and strong leaders to protect their lands and people.
