Kingdom of Egypt facts for kids
The Kingdom of Egypt was an independent country in Africa. It was formed in 1922. This kingdom was ruled by the Muhammad Ali family.
Great Britain declared Egypt independent in 1922. However, Egypt was not fully free at first. The British still controlled many important things. They managed Egypt's foreign relations and communications. They also controlled the military and Sudan. After 1936, Britain had less control. But they still kept some soldiers and advisers in Egypt until 1952.
The Kingdom of Egypt faced many problems. There was a lot of corruption. This means some leaders were dishonest. Because of this, a group called the Free Officers Movement started a revolution in 1952. In 1953, the kingdom ended. Egypt then became a republic, which means it was led by elected officials instead of a king.
The future of Sudan was decided later. In 1954, Egypt and Britain agreed. Sudan became an independent country in 1956.
