Kotaro Yamazaki (山崎 光太郎, Yamazaki Kotaro, born October 19, 1978) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward during his career. Yamazaki is known for playing with clubs like Shimizu S-Pulse and Ventforet Kofu. He also represented Japan in youth international tournaments.

Playing for Football Clubs

Kotaro Yamazaki was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on October 19, 1978. He started his football journey at Shimizu Higashi High School. After high school, he joined Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1997. This was a big step into professional football.

Early Career and University Play

Even though he joined Nagoya Grampus Eight, Yamazaki did not get to play in any official matches for the team. He also attended Chukyo University during this time. In 1999, he left Grampus and joined the Chukyo University football team. This allowed him to continue playing while studying.

Joining Shimizu S-Pulse

After finishing university, Yamazaki returned to his hometown. In 2001, he joined Shimizu S-Pulse, a local club. He played nine matches for Shimizu S-Pulse in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. He also helped the team win the Emperor's Cup in 2001.

Time with Ventforet Kofu

In 2003, Yamazaki moved to Ventforet Kofu, a club in the J2 League (Japan's second division). He became a more regular player there. He scored 10 goals in 73 matches for Ventforet Kofu. In 2006, his team achieved a great success. Ventforet Kofu was promoted to the J1 League. Yamazaki played for two seasons in the J1 League with Ventforet Kofu. He retired from professional football at the end of the 2007 season.

Playing for Japan's National Team

Kotaro Yamazaki also had the chance to play for his country. In August 1995, he was chosen for the Japan U-17 national team. This team competed in the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship.

U-17 World Championship Experience

During the 1995 U-17 World Championship, Yamazaki played in all three of Japan's matches. He even scored a goal against the United States team. Playing in a World Championship was a significant achievement for him as a young player.
