Kozo Tashima (田嶋 幸三, Tashima Kōzō, born November 21, 1957) is a famous Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder or forward. He was also a member of the Japan national team. After his playing career, he became a very important leader in football. He is now the president of the Japan Football Association (JFA). He also used to lead the East Asian Football Federation.

Playing Football
Kozo Tashima was born in Amakusa District, Kumamoto, Japan. This was on November 21, 1957. He loved football from a young age.
Early Days
In 1976, Kozo Tashima won a big championship. His team from Urawa-South high school became the Japanese high school champions. After high school, he went to the University of Tsukuba. There, he studied sports science.
After finishing university, he joined a football club. This club was called Furukawa Electric. He joined them in 1980. In 1982, his club finished second in the 1982 JSL Cup. He played regularly for his team. He played 39 games and scored 6 goals in the league. He stopped playing professional football in 1982.
Playing for Japan
Kozo Tashima also played for his country. He joined the Japan national team in 1979. At that time, he was still a student at the University of Tsukuba. His first game for Japan was on June 27, 1979, against Malaysia. He played for Japan until 1980. In total, he played 7 games for Japan and scored 1 goal.
After His Playing Days
After Kozo Tashima stopped playing football, he continued to work in the sport. He wanted to learn more about coaching.
Coaching and Learning
From 1983 to 1986, he studied in Germany. He went to the German Sport University Cologne. There, he earned a special coaching license. When he came back to Japan, he became a coach. He worked as a technical coach for his old university's football team. He also taught at Rikkyo University for several years.
In 2001, he became the coach for the Japan U-17 national team. He led this team to the U-17 World Championship. It was the first time since 1995 that Japan's U-17 team reached this big tournament.
Leading Football Organizations
Kozo Tashima took on many important roles in football. In July 2010, he became the vice-president of the Japan Football Association (JFA). This is the main organization for football in Japan.
In January 2011, he joined the Executive Committee of the Asian Football Confederation. This group helps manage football across Asia. He also became a member of the FIFA Council in April 2015. FIFA is the highest football organization in the world.
In March 2016, he became the president of the JFA. This was a very important position. In April 2016, he also became the president of the East Asian Football Federation. He held this role until March 2018.
Awards and Recognition
Kozo Tashima has received special honors for his work. In 2020, he was given the Medal with Blue Ribbon. This is a special award in Japan for people who have done great things for society.
