Kozo Tashima (田嶋 幸三, Tashima Kōzō, born November 21, 1957) is a well-known figure in Japanese football. He used to be a professional football player. He also played for the Japan national football team. Today, he is the president of the Japan Football Association (JFA). He also leads the East Asian Football Federation.

Playing Football: Club Career
Kozo Tashima was born in Amakusa District, Kumamoto, Japan. This was on November 21, 1957. In 1976, his high school team, Urawa-South, won the Japanese high school championship. After high school, he studied sports science. He attended the University of Tsukuba.
After university, he joined a football club called Furukawa Electric in 1980. His team finished second in the 1982 JSL Cup. He was a regular player for the club. He played 39 games and scored 6 goals in the league. He retired from playing football in 1982.
Playing for His Country: International Career
Kozo Tashima also played for his country. He joined the Japan national football team on June 27, 1979. At that time, he was still a student at the University of Tsukuba. His first game was against the Malaysian team.
He continued to play for Japan in 1980. In total, he played 7 games for Japan. He scored 1 goal for his national team.
After Retirement: A Leader in Football
After retiring as a player, Kozo Tashima continued his journey in football. From 1983 to 1986, he studied in Germany. He attended the German Sport University Cologne. There, he earned a B coaching license.
When he returned to Japan, he became a coach. He worked with the football club at his old university. He also taught at Rikkyo University for several years. In 2001, he coached the Japan U-17 national team. He led them to the first round of the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship. This was the first time since 1995 that the team reached this stage.
Leading Football Organizations
Kozo Tashima took on important leadership roles in football. In July 2010, he became the vice-president of the Japan Football Association (JFA). The JFA is in charge of football in Japan. Since January 2011, he has been a member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee. The AFC manages football in Asia.
In April 2015, he joined the FIFA Council. FIFA is the highest governing body for football worldwide. In March 2016, he became the president of the JFA. In April 2016, he also became the president of the East Asian Football Federation. He held this position until March 2018.
In March 2020, Kozo Tashima was diagnosed with COVID-19. He recovered from the illness.
