Kristina Borg (born Jönsdotter, 1844–1928) was an important Swedish woman. She was a newspaper publisher, a suffragist, and a peace activist. She became well-known in the city of Helsingborg in the early 1900s.

In 1869, she married Fredrik Borg. He was the editor of Öresundsposten, a daily newspaper in Helsingborg. After her husband passed away in 1895, Kristina took over the newspaper. By 1913, she became its official publisher.

Kristina Borg was very successful with the newspaper. She also led the Helsingborg group of the National Association for Women’s Suffrage. This group worked to get women the right to vote. She was also on the board of the national organization.

Kristina was an early supporter of the peace movement. She joined Sveriges Kvinnliga Fredsförening, which was a women's peace group. In 1906, she was one of two Swedish representatives at a peace meeting in Milan, Italy.

Early Life and Newspaper Career

Kristina Jönsdotter was born on September 3, 1844. Her birthplace was Västra Broby, near Helsingborg. Her parents were Jöns Andersson, a farmer, and Elna Pehrsdotter. She was the sixth of eight children in her family.

In the 1860s, Kristina worked as a clerk. She worked at the daily newspaper Öresunds-Posten. There, she met Frederik Theodor Borg. He owned and was the main editor of the paper. They got married in 1869.

Becoming a Publisher

When her husband died in 1895, Kristina Borg became the owner of the newspaper. In 1913, she also took on the roles of publisher and editor-in-chief. From 1906, she had already been editing a weekly section. This section was called "Vara hem" and focused on homes.

In 1919, Kristina Borg turned 75 years old. Karolina Widerström wrote an article about her. It was published in Rösträtt för kvinnor. Karolina praised Kristina's "economic ability and her journalistic gifts." This meant she was good with money and talented at writing for newspapers.

Kristina ran the newspaper for many years. She continued until just before she passed away. At 84 years old, she decided to sell the paper. There was more competition in the newspaper business at that time.

Fighting for Women's Rights and Peace

Kristina Borg did more than just run a successful newspaper. She was also a strong voice for important causes.

Women's Suffrage Leader

She led the Helsingborg branch of the National Association for Women's Suffrage. This group worked hard to gain voting rights for women. Kristina was also part of the national board for this organization. Her work helped women in Sweden get the right to vote.

A Champion for Peace

Kristina was also a very early supporter of peace. She was a member of Sveriges Kvinnliga Fredsförening. This was a Swedish women's group dedicated to peace. She believed in solving problems without war. In 1906, she traveled to Milan for a peace meeting. She was one of only two delegates from Sweden.

Kristina Borg passed away in Helsingborg on September 9, 1928.
