Kunio Nagayama's Football Journey

Kunio Nagayama was born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, on September 16, 1970. He started his football journey with the youth team of Nissan Motors. This club later became known as Yokohama Marinos and then Yokohama F. Marinos.

Early Success with Nissan Motors

Nagayama joined the main Nissan Motors team in 1989. From his very first season, he played in many matches. He was a key player, often playing as a right-side midfielder or right-side back.

During his early years, the club had amazing success. They won three major titles in Japan in 1989: the Japan Soccer League, the JSL Cup, and the Emperor's Cup.

Winning More Trophies

The success continued into the early 1990s. The club won the 1990 JSL Cup and the Emperor's Cup in both 1991 and 1992.

They also achieved success in Asia, winning the 1991–92 Asian Cup Winners' Cup and the 1992–93 Asian Cup Winners' Cup. This showed they were one of the best teams not just in Japan, but across Asia too!
