Kuranosuke Hamaguchi had a long and interesting career in music. He traveled and worked hard to become the successful songwriter we remember today.
Early Days and Jazz Music
In 1942, Hamaguchi went to Indonesia to follow his dream of singing. He returned to Japan in 1946. After coming back, he joined a jazz band. This band played music for soldiers from other countries who were in Japan after World War II. They helped entertain the troops.
Becoming a Hit Songwriter
In 1957, Hamaguchi decided to leave the jazz band. He then started writing songs for many popular singers. His first big hit song was "黄色いさくらんぼ" (Kiiroi Sakuranbo), which means "Yellow Cherries." It became popular in 1959. Another huge hit followed in 1966, called "バラが咲いた" (Bara ga Saita), meaning "Roses Have Bloomed." He continued to write many beloved songs throughout his life.
Kuranosuke Hamaguchi passed away on December 2, 1990, at the age of 73.
