The Kuratau River is a cool river found in the middle of New Zealand's North Island. It's about 24 kilometers (15 miles) long. This river is important because it helps create electricity for people.
Where Does the Kuratau River Flow?
The Kuratau River starts in the hilly areas south of the Pureora Forest Park. It first flows towards the southeast. Then, it turns and heads northeast. This journey takes it to the small Lake Kuratau.
From Lake Kuratau, the river continues flowing east for about 5 kilometers (3 miles). Finally, it reaches the southwest part of Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo is a very large lake. The river joins Lake Taupo near a small town called Kuratau.
How the Kuratau River Helps Us
The water from the Kuratau River is used to make electricity. This happens at a place called the Kuratau Power Station. A power station uses the force of moving water to spin special machines. These machines then create electricity. This is a clean way to get power for homes and businesses.
