Exploring Emmaste-Kurisu's Past
Early Mentions and Names
The village of Emmaste-Kurisu has a long history. It was first written about in records way back in 1798. At that time, its name was spelled Kurriso. This shows how old the settlement is.
Connection to Emmaste Manor
For a long time, the village was connected to a large estate called Emmaste Manor. A manor was like a big country house with a lot of land around it. The German name for this manor was Emmast. Villages like Kurisu were often part of these large estates in the past.
Changes in Village Boundaries
Villages sometimes change their names or their borders over time. From 1977 to 1997, the village of Kurisu was actually considered part of another nearby village called Lassi. Later, it became its own separate village again. This is how places can change their official status.
