Kwena Bellemare-Boivin is a talented Indigenous actress and musician. She is known for her acting work in films and TV shows. Kwena was nominated for a special award called the Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie Before the Streets (also known as Avant les rues). This nomination happened at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards.
Kwena is a member of the Atikamekw nation, which is an Indigenous group from Wemotaci, Quebec, Canada. Her brother, Rykko Bellemare, also acted in Before the Streets and played the main character.
Music and Television Work
Besides acting, Kwena is also a singer and dancer. She performs with a traditional Atikamekw music group called Northern Voice. This group shares the rich culture and sounds of the Atikamekw people.
Kwena has also appeared on television. She was in two TV series shown on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). These shows are called Brigade des Nations and Le rythme.
