Kōhei Matsushita (born July 24, 1985) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender. Matsushita is known for his time playing in Japan and later in the United States.

Football Journey

Early Career in Japan

Kōhei Matsushita started his football journey in Japan. He went to Shizuoka Gakuen High School. In 2002, his high school team won the All Japan High School Championship. Matsushita was also named one of the "Best 11" players that year.

After high school, he joined Júbilo Iwata. He played for their younger teams, including the U-18, U-19, and U-23 squads. In 2006, he played for Ehime FC on loan. He then officially moved to Ehime FC in 2007. He was an important player for them for three seasons.

Playing in the United States

In 2011, Matsushita decided to try playing football outside Japan. He went to an open tryout for the Atlanta Silverbacks. This team played in the North American Soccer League in the United States.

He made history by becoming the first Japanese player to sign with the Atlanta Silverbacks. His first game for the team was on April 16, 2011. He played against FC Edmonton. The team announced that he would return for the 2012 season.

Playing Style

Kōhei Matsushita was known for playing on the left side of the field. He was good at sending accurate passes, called "crosses," to his teammates. His idol player was Cafu, a famous player from Brazil.
