La Presa Este (which means "Eastern Water Dam" in Spanish) is a large part of Tijuana Municipality in Baja California, Mexico. It's like a big district or neighborhood within the city of Tijuana. It stretches from the United States border in the north all the way down to Rosarito Beach Municipality in the south. It is the second-largest borough in the Tijuana area.
A Look at Its Past
The area known today as La Presa Este has a long history. Back in 1835, a big piece of land called the Rancho Cueros de Venado was located here. A "rancho" was like a large farm or ranch. This particular rancho was owned by a person named Juan María Marrón. Over time, this land became part of the growing city of Tijuana.
How La Presa Este is Governed
La Presa Este is a "delegación," which means it's a borough or a local administrative area within the larger Tijuana municipality. It has its own local government that helps manage services for the people living there. The person in charge is called the Municipal Delegate. As of 2015, over 215,000 people live in La Presa Este.
