La Tigra is a special area called a district in Costa Rica. It's part of the San Carlos region, which is in the Alajuela province.

History

La Tigra was officially created on February 5, 1952. This happened through a special government decision.

Geography

La Tigra covers an area of about 56.44 square kilometers. It sits at an elevation of 290 meters above sea level.

This district is located in the northern part of Costa Rica. It shares borders with Florencia to the north and east. To the south and east, it borders San Ramón.

The main village, also called La Tigra, is easy to find. It's about 27.9 kilometers (a 48-minute drive) east of Ciudad Quesada. It's also 108 kilometers (about a 2-hour and 36-minute drive) northwest of San José, which is the capital city of Costa Rica.

The land in La Tigra ranges from 200 to 1100 meters above sea level.

Besides beautiful plants, farmers also grow food crops. Some of these crops are cassava, ñampí, tiquizque, and bananas.

Tourism is also growing in La Tigra. The Bosque Eterno de Los Niños (Children's Eternal Rainforest) is a big attraction. It's a rainforest full of amazing plants and animals. This natural beauty brings many visitors to the area.
