Laff Trakk at RCDB |
Laff Trakk is a super fun indoor roller coaster at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It's a special kind of ride called a "spinning steel roller coaster." This means your ride vehicle spins around freely as you go!
The coaster was designed by a company called Maurer AG, and the cool glowing inside theme was created by Raven Sun Creative. Laff Trakk is one of Hersheypark's many exciting roller coasters, and it's located in the Midway America part of the park. It's near other rides like The Whip.
Laff Trakk is known as a "glow coaster" because its inside looks like it glows in the dark! The track is black and blue, and the ride cars are a bright violet color. The theme of the ride reminds people of old-fashioned funhouses that used to be at Hersheypark a long time ago. Laff Trakk first opened on May 23, 2015.
How Laff Trakk Was Announced
Hersheypark started hinting about a new ride on July 15, 2014. They released clues every Tuesday for four weeks. Each clue was a riddle about the new attraction's theme.
Laff Trakk was officially announced on August 12, 2014. When it was announced, people could see an animated video of what the ride would be like. There were also fun photo spots and characters from the clues, like a fortune teller and Laffing Sal.
The ride goes up to about 50 feet (15 meters) high. The track is 1,400 feet (427 meters) long. Each ride car has four seats that face back-to-back. These cars start to spin freely in a full circle (360°) during the ride! How much the car spins depends on how the riders' weight is spread out. The ride cars also have cool stickers, including the Hersheypark logo and playing cards with Laffing Sal.
What the Ride Is Like
After you get into your ride car, you immediately turn right out of the station. Then, you go up the lift hill, reaching a height of about 50 feet (15 meters).
When you turn left off the lift hill, you go through a short brake section. On your right, you'll see a giant stack of 2-D cards. Next, your car dips to the right and goes through three sets of huge green picture or mirror frames. After going up another small hill, you glide past a large 2-D snake on the wall. Then, you turn left into a small brake section with walls on both sides.
Once you leave this brake section, your ride car can start to spin freely in a full circle! You'll take a dive to the right and then experience a super-steep 85° banked turn. After that, you turn around and go through several short, curvy sections of track. You then turn right into another brake section, where you'll see 2-D "fire" rings all around the track.
After this brake section, you'll go through a helix (a spiral turn) around a fortune teller's table with a "crystal ball." You'll go through more curvy turns, then curve around one last time. Finally, you enter the last brake section, which has small funhouse mirrors on each side of the car. At this point, your ride car stops spinning and locks into its starting position.
