Lakenan is a small place located in Shelby County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county government.
History of Lakenan
Lakenan was first established in 1858. This happened when a new railroad line was built through the area. The community was named after Robert F. Lakenan, who was important in getting the railroad built. A post office opened in Lakenan in 1859. It helped the community send and receive mail for many years until it closed in 1968.
