The name "Lama Lama" used to refer to a specific group called the Bakanambia. Today, the Lama Lama people are made up of different groups and families who have come together.

They speak several distinct languages, including Umpithamu, Morrobalama (also known as Umbuygamu), Mba Rumbathama (or Lamalama), and Rimanggudinhma. Today, the Lama Lama community includes more than a dozen related family groups.

  • Barry Port was a well-known Aboriginal tracker in Australia. Trackers use their amazing skills to follow trails and find people or things. Barry Port was the last tracker employed only for this special role. He passed away in 2020.
