The Story of Lambert's Cafe
How It All Started
Lambert's Cafe first opened its doors in 1942 in Sikeston, Missouri. It was started by Earl Lambert. His wife, Agnes, and his brother Robert and Robert's wife, Ruby, helped him. They worked together to make the cafe a success.
The Famous "Throwed Rolls"
Later, in 1976, Earl's son, Norman Lambert, took over the cafe. Norman, who people called "'Ole Norm," used to be a football coach. It was Norman who started the super fun tradition of throwing rolls to customers!
He explained how it began around 1977. One busy lunchtime, the cafe was very crowded. Norman couldn't easily reach a customer to give them a roll. Someone shouted, "Throw 'em!" So, he did! The rolls are always fresh and warm, straight from the oven. This tradition quickly became a big hit and is now what Lambert's Cafe is most famous for.
