Who Was Langham Booth?
Langham Booth was a significant figure in English politics during the early 18th century. He was known for his work in Parliament and his close connection to the royal family.
Early Life and Family
Langham Booth was born around 1684. He was a younger son of a very important family. His father was Henry Booth, 1st Earl of Warrington, and his mother was Mary Langham. Being part of such a family meant he grew up with connections to powerful people.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1705, Langham Booth was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (often called an MP). An MP is someone who is elected by people to represent them in the government and help make laws. He represented the area of Cheshire.
He was part of a political group known as the Whigs. Political groups like the Whigs had different ideas about how the country should be run. Langham Booth served as an MP for Cheshire until 1710.
His Time in Parliament
In 1707, something big happened: the First Parliament of Great Britain was formed. This meant England and Scotland joined together to have one main government. Langham Booth was one of the members of this new, important Parliament.
He was elected again to be an MP for another long period, from 1715 to 1722. Later, in 1723, he was elected once more, this time representing the city of Liverpool.
Working for the King
Besides his work in Parliament, Langham Booth also had a special job working directly for the King. He was a Groom of the Bedchamber to King George I. This was a very trusted position, meaning he was a close assistant to the King and helped him with important daily tasks.
A Short Life
Sadly, Langham Booth's life was cut short. He died in 1724, only about a year after being elected as the MP for Liverpool. At the time of his death, he was reported to be around 40 years old.
