The Lansing Woman's Club Building is a historic building in Lansing, Michigan. It was once a place for women to learn and gather. This building is special because it's the only one left in Lansing designed by a local architect named James Appleyard.

History of the Building
How the Club Started
The Lansing Women's Club began in 1874. Its main goal was to offer learning and cultural chances for women in the area. At first, the club rented different spaces around town.
Building a New Home
In 1889, the club decided to build its own home. They hired James Appleyard, a local architect, to design it. The building was finished between 1889 and 1890. It first had two floors. The club used the top floor for their meetings and activities. The bottom floor was rented out as office space.
Adding a Third Floor
Later, in 1912, the club added a third floor to the building. The club then moved its rooms to this new top floor. This allowed them to rent out the second floor for offices too.
New Location for the Club
The Lansing Woman's Club used this building until 1949. In 1952, they bought a new building at 624 West Ottawa Street. The club owned the original building until 1972. In 1980, the building was carefully fixed up and restored.
What the Building Looks Like
The Lansing Woman's Club Building is a three-story building made of red brick. It is built in a style called Richardsonian Romanesque. This style often uses heavy stone, round arches, and detailed carvings.
The building is narrow and tall. It stands between two other office buildings. Even though it was built a long time ago, it still looks strong and interesting. The first floor has been updated over the years. It now has large window openings between brick sections.
