Larry Edward Guno (February 28, 1940 – July 17, 2005) was a lawyer, a writer, and a politician in British Columbia. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Atlin area. He served in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1986 to 1991. Larry Guno was a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP).
Early Life and Education
Larry Guno was born in Aiyansh, British Columbia in 1940. He was a member of the Nisga'a Nation. His father's name was Augustus Guno.
Larry Guno went to college at Simon Fraser University. He also studied at the University of British Columbia. He became a lawyer.
Political Career
Larry Guno was elected as an MLA for Atlin in 1986. He served in the British Columbia government for five years. He was part of the New Democratic Party.
After his time as an MLA, Larry Guno continued to be involved in politics. In 2000, he ran for a seat in the Canadian Parliament. He tried to represent the Skeena area. However, he was not elected in that election.
A Playwright's Voice
Besides being a lawyer and politician, Larry Guno was also a playwright. A playwright is someone who writes plays for the theater. He wrote a play called Bunk #7.
This play was based on his own experiences. It told the story of his time at a residential school. These schools were a difficult part of Canadian history.
Later Life
Larry Guno passed away in 2005. He was 65 years old. He died at his home in Terrace.
