Larry C. Selders (born in 1981 or 1982 – died on July 7, 2026) was an American leader who worked in government. He served as a member of the Louisiana Senate, representing the 14th district, from 2025 until his passing in 2026. Before that, he represented the 67th district in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2020 to 2025. He was known for his dedication to his community and for helping to make important laws.

Early Life and Learning
Larry C. Selders grew up in Louisiana and attended the Louisiana State University Laboratory School. He continued his education at Southern University, where he earned a degree in social work in 2005. While in college, he worked at a group home, helping young people who were facing challenges. This early experience showed his commitment to supporting others.
A Career in Public Service
Larry Selders dedicated much of his life to serving the people of Louisiana. He held several important roles before becoming a state legislator.
Helping His Community
Selders was a treasurer and commissioner for the Baton Rouge Recreation and Parks Commission (BREC). This agency manages parks and fun activities in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. He also worked as an executive director for Focused Family Services, a clinic that helped people with their mental health and other challenges in Baton Rouge. He also started his own real estate company, Selders Development Group, and invested in properties in his local area.
Serving in the Louisiana House
In November 2019, Larry Selders was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. He won a special election, taking the place of Patricia Haynes Smith, who could not run again due to term limits. He officially started his work on January 13, 2020. During his time in the House, he was part of several important groups, called committees, that studied topics like agriculture, health, and how the state manages its money. He also worked on a committee focused on homeland security. A notable achievement was when he suggested a new law in 2021 that made Juneteenth a state holiday in Louisiana, celebrating freedom and history. He served in the House until he resigned on February 27, 2025, with his term officially ending on March 10, 2025.
Moving to the State Senate
After his time in the House, Larry Selders was elected to the Louisiana Senate in a special election held in 2025. He represented the 14th district and continued his work of making laws and serving his community at a higher level in the state government.
Family and Legacy
Larry Selders was married to Kendra Michael, and they had two sons. He was a dedicated family man. In May 2026, Selders had surgery for a heart condition. Sadly, he passed away on July 7, 2026, at the age of 44. He died while at his son's football practice at BREC Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge. Larry Selders is remembered for his commitment to public service and his efforts to improve the lives of people in Louisiana.
