Laura Fürst, born on April 24, 1991, is a talented German wheelchair basketball player. She is known as a 2.0 point player, which is a way to classify players based on their physical abilities in the sport. Laura plays for the RBB Munich Iguanas in the wheelchair basketball league. She also represents her country on the German national team. With the national team, she won a silver medal at the 2014 World Championship in Toronto.

Her Journey to Wheelchair Basketball
Laura Fürst was born in Munich, Germany. When she was 16, in 2008, she was an exchange student in Michigan, USA. During her stay, she had an accident while riding a snowmobile. She lost control and crashed into a tree. This accident caused a serious back injury. It resulted in her legs becoming paralyzed.
After the accident, Laura returned to Germany for rehabilitation. During her recovery, she discovered wheelchair basketball. She quickly learned the game and started playing for two teams: SV Reha Augsburg and RBB Munich. Young players can often play for more than one team.
College Success and Team Wins
In 2011, Laura was part of the German U25 team. They played in the Women's World Cup in Canada. The next year, in July 2012, her team won the U22 European Championship. They beat Sweden in the final game in England.
Laura then went to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the United States. She studied physical engineering there for a year. She also played wheelchair basketball for the university team, the Warhawks. Her team included other amazing Paralympians. On March 9, 2013, Laura helped the Warhawks win the college championship. They defeated the University of Alabama. Laura also did well in her studies. She made the Dean's List for her good grades.
Playing for Germany
In June 2014, Laura joined the senior German women's team. They competed in the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Toronto, Canada. The German team played very well and earned a silver medal. They were defeated by Canada in the final game.
The German team continued their success in 2015. They won the European Championships by beating the Netherlands. This was their tenth European title! In 2016, Laura and her team went to the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They won another silver medal, losing to the United States in the final.
